Violent Crime

If you or a loved one has been a victim of a violent crime, you have been traumatized both physically and emotionally. In addition to your pain and suffering, you may have also experienced financial loss or unanticipated expenses.  We can advise you on whether you are eligible to file a claim with the Ontario Criminal Injuries Compensation Board or whether you can launch a civil lawsuit. We understand the trauma you have suffered and are trained to deal with the victims of violent crimes. Ontario’s Criminal Injuries Compensation Board may award compensation for:

  • Expenses incurred as a result of the victim’s injury or death, including the cost of counselling, physiotherapy, eyeglasses, dentures, etc.
  • Emergency expenses incurred as a result of the victim’s injury or death, such as medical costs, funeral expenses and interim counselling
  • Loss of wages up to $50 per day or a maximum of $250 per week in cases where total or partial disability has affected the victim’s ability to work
  • Financial loss to the dependants of a deceased victim
  • Pain and suffering
