PRIVATE MEMBER'S BILL PASSES FIRST READING

On November 28, 2011, Bill 9, passed first reading.  If it passes to Royal Assent, this Bill will amend the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act to require a minimum one metre of paved shoulder on certain provincially owned highways to IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY FOR CYCLISTS, PEDESTRIANS AND MOTORISTS ALIKE.

Eleanor McMahon, Founder and CEO of Share the Road Coalition says "investing in paved shoulders is a life-saving measure that will enhance safety for all road users - particularly vulnerable road users -- cyclist and pedestrians."
